Hetauda, Nepal – On 2081-12-10, a high-level consultation meeting was convened at the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development in Hetauda to review the progress of family farming initiatives and discuss policy frameworks aimed at strengthening sustainable agricultural practices. The meeting was graced by the presence of Binod Kumar Bhattarai, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development, as the chief guest.

The consultation brought together 23 key officials from various agricultural sectors, including crop development, plant protection, and veterinary services. The discussions focused on the achievements of family farming programs, ongoing initiatives, and future strategies to enhance the role of family farmers in Nepal’s agricultural landscape.

Ms. Meena Pokhrel, Acting General Manager of NACCFL and Member Secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming Nepal provided a comprehensive briefing on the progress of family farming initiatives in the country. She highlighted key accomplishments and outlined strategic directions for the future, emphasizing the importance of family farmers in national agricultural development and also submitted a policy paper on family farming to province government.

As part of the Challenge Fund activities, a preliminary draft document outlining existing policies, laws, and regulations related to land and agriculture was submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development. This document serves as a foundation for reviewing and refining legislative frameworks to support sustainable land management and agricultural growth. Stakeholders were encouraged to provide feedback, ensuring a participatory approach to policy enhancement.

The consultation meeting facilitated constructive discussions, underscoring the need for inclusive and coordinated efforts to promote family farming. The insights and recommendations generated from this engagement are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping future agricultural policies and strengthening the resilience of family farmers in Nepal.
