With the aim of alleviating poverty through the participation of rural poor farmers, Small Farmers Development Program (SFDP) was initiated through joint cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture Government of Nepal and Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) in 1975 A.D .with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). Further, with the support of GTZ, the establishment of small farmer-operated and managed Small Farmer Agriculture Cooperatives was made more accessible– sustaining, expanding, and cooperative realization of activities carried out under the framework of SFDP program.
Significance
Financial as well as non-financial services are equally important for every agriculture cooperatives to be financially viable and sustainable. It was more effective and more sustainable to establish their own federation to receive non-financial and other services instead of relying on other donors or other government agencies. The central federation could strive for the extension of lobby and advocacy for policy formation at the local as well as central level, access to available resources through collective demand and coordinating with relevant and concerned stakeholders.

The activities of NACCFL Nepal by empowering small farmers across Nepal by strengthening agricultural cooperatives, improving access to affordable credit, promoting sustainable farming practices, fostering market linkages and many more has been recognized and awarded by different national and institutional bodies . Our Services
NACCFL promotes rural access to finance via cooperatives, promotes value chains through the "Kisan Ko Poko" model linking rural producers to urban markets, and strengthens cooperatives with training in agriculture and technology, market linkage, financial management, and project development.
Policy Advocacy
NACCFL Lobbies and advocates to ensure the rights of small farmers through amendments and formulation of Co-operative friendly acts and policies, Pro-farmer's acts and implementing campaigns like UN Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028
Network Expansion
NACCFL is implementing the co-operative model called "SMALL FARMERS AGRICULTURE CO-OPERATIVE LIMITED" to expand the outreach of micro-finance and agro-inputs in the rural area of Nepal
Value chain and Market promotion
KKP "KISAN KO POKO" is a breakthrough model developed by NACCFL based on the C2C - Cooperative to Cooperative marketing approach linking the rural producers with the urban market. Further, NACCFL Supports in establishment of Agro-enterprises like Rice Mills, Tea Plants, Lentils Processing Plants based on local producers of Small Farmers.
Capacity Building
NACCFL to strengthen the SFACLs, provides various capacity building/enhancement trainings on Agricultural, Institutional Development, Market-linkage, Financial Management, Information Technology and Project Development/Management aspects
NACCFL Future Plans
The focus areas include advancing climate-smart agriculture, advocating for policy support, strengthening value chains by promoting small and medium-scale cottage industries, setting up central wholesale markets at national and provincial levels, supporting initiatives under the UN Decade of Family Farming (2019–2028), and improving food security.
