Family Farming
UN Decade of family farming
For the implementation of this program in the fiscal year 2081/82, a budget of NPR 8,00,000 (Eight Lakhs) has been allocated to each of the 15 local levels. This initiative, led by the Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, aims to promote family farming. The program will be executed by the respective local levels (Rural Municipalities/Municipalities) in coordination with their respective Small Farmer Agriculture Cooperative Ltd. (SFACL), as proposed by NACCFL.
NACCFL has been selected to implement the National Committees of Family Farming Challenge Fund supported by the World Rural Forum. The activities planned under this initiative include analyzing land and agricultural policies, preparing a comprehensive policy paper, engaging in policy discussions with provincial and local stakeholders, and incorporating any gaps into the agricultural development strategy. NACCFL is serving as the Secretariat for the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) from the very beginning to till now for the promotion of UNDFF and will be responsible for overseeing all activities carried out by the local levels in coordination with member SFACLs.

More info about UN Decade of family farming :
The 2014 International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) aimed to “raise the profile of family farming and smallholder farming by focusing the world’s attention on its significant role in eradicating hunger and poverty, providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development, in particular in rural areas.” The Nepal Agricultural Cooperative Central Federation (NACCFL) was selected as the Secretariat for the IYFF in Nepal. As the Secretariat, NACCFL’s role was to support the formation of crucial committees for the IYFF (National Implementation Committee Nepal, National Directive Committee Nepal, and Advisory Committee) and facilitate the implementation of the on-ground IYFF strategy in Nepal, amongst others.
In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Decade of Family Farming (DFF) 2019-2028 to strengthen the role of family farmers across all five continents. This declaration builds on the achievements of the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) 2014, aiming to advance the implementation of public policies and support the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As part of its commitment, NACCFL continues to offer administrative and policy support to ensure the successful execution of the DFF.
